Offered is a set of two beautiful Victorian soup plates by Ridgway, England, in the Indus pattern. Each plate is transfer-printed in black and hand-painted in polychrome shades of rust, orange, and brown on a cream ground. The decoration features birds and stylized florals in the Aesthetic Movement style, typical of the late 19th century.
The underside carries the diamond-shaped English registry mark, dating the design to 1877.
Each soup plate is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, repairs or stains. Small crazing throughout underglaze on each piece. Please see the pictures as they are part of my description.
It measures approximate 9 1/4” in diameter, 1 1/2” deep.
