They reflect the traditional guardian lion or foo dog forms that have been continuously produced in China since the Qing Dynasty, but the bright turquoise glaze and relatively lightweight ceramic body suggest a vintage decorative export version, probably from the 1960s–1980s period when such pieces were widely produced for Western interiors. Each rests on an openwork plinth base with stylized scroll motifs, symbolizing protection and prosperity.
