Victorian Malachite & Greek Key Enamel Brooch, c.1865 – Neoclassical Revival
A beautifully preserved mid-19th-century brooch exemplifying Victorian Neoclassical Revival design. This finely crafted piece combines the opulence of natural malachite with the timeless geometry of the Greek key motif — a striking accent for collectors and lovers of antique jewellery.
Description
Offered by Cheshire Antiques Consultant LTD, this circular brooch dates to circa 1865 and captures the refined aesthetic of the Neoclassical Revival movement so admired during the Victorian era.
At its centre rests a domed malachite cabochon with distinctive green banding, set within a gilded brass (pinchbeck) mount. The border features a delicately enamelled Greek key pattern in deep black, providing bold contrast and balance to the natural stone’s organic depth.
Entirely hand-crafted, this jewel retains its original C-clasp and elongated pin stem, along with a soft, authentic patina acquired over more than 150 years.
