Excellent Pre-Owned Condition.
Federalist ironstone was a popular collection of tableware made in Japan during the 1960s and 1970s for Sears Roebuck & Company. It came in three colors - white, yellow and white with a blue floral motif (Mayhill). Did you know that two variations of yellow exist; lemon yellow and buttercup yellow? Thanks to its adaptable and attractive design of scalloped edges and simple embossed lines, it easily mixes and matches with a variety of vintage and modern-day tableware, proving that classic style always has a place at the table no matter what the time period. This gorgeous set is crafted from ironstone china, which is a glaze-covered earthenware first patented by Charles James Mason of Staffordshire, England in 1813. The 46-piece set consists of the following:
7 - Dinner Plates: 10½” diameter (photos 2, 4, 5, 16 & 17)
8 - Salad/Bread Plates: 7½” diameter (photos 2, 4, 7 & 14)
8 - Coupe Bowls: 6½” diameter (photos 2, 4, 6 & 15)
7 - Coffee Cups: 8 oz. capacity apiece (photo 3)
8 - Saucers for Coffee Cups: 6” diameter (photo 3)
1 - Serving Bowl: 9½” diameter (photos 2, 4, 12 & 13)
1 - Serving Platter: 12” diameter (photos 2, 4, 12 & 13)
2-Piece Salt Shaker & Pepper Set: 5” high apiece (photos 8, 9 & 18)
2-Piece Gravy Boat & Underplate Set: gravy boat 20 oz. capacity; underplate 8¼” x 6½” x W/D/H (photos 9, 10, 12, 13 & 18)
2-Piece Butter Plate Dish with Cover: 8” x 4” x 2½” W/D/H (photos 9, 10 & 18)
Weight: The entire 46 piece set weighs approximately 50 to 55 lbs.
Origin: Japan
The dishes are lemon yellow on the exterior with milky white interiors. The 46-piece set offers service for eight, and please note, there is one dinner plate and one coffee cup missing. In excellent condition with a well preserved highly glazed finish. Age-appropriate wear i.e. random crazing. Pin marks on the undersides are from the glazing firing process and are normal, as a result of the manufacturing process, as are random underglaze specks.
A beautifully appointed set whose classic lines will complement today’s modern table settings with effortless ease and aplomb!
Bon appétit!
