This early 20th century etching shows a tunnel like area with single door way with an arched light and stairs leading up to the entry. There are arched ceilings making this look as if it were underground. Rothenburg ob der Tauber, a famous medieval German town known for its fairy tale atmosphere and a picture of what inspired the etching is found on the backside. Paul Geissler (1881-1965) was one of the foremost German etchers. He began his work in art as a printmaker and painter, studying at the School of Arts and Crafts in Erfurt, Germany. It is signed on the bottom in pencil with a wide matte and thin black frame. Is in good condition with visible and minor wear for its usage. See less
