Preux is of Mexican heritage but based the composition on Matisse’s “Jazz” cutouts series as well as modernist interpretations of classic Mexican/South American traditional symbols, such as birds and landscape design elements.

Preux was part of the renowned family workshop associated with Pedro Pablo Preux, a major figure in Mexican modernist textile art.
