A 19th century asparagus footed dish and matching serving platter by the iconic Sarreguemines faïence factory. Crafted in richly glazed earthenware, with a hand painted motif along the rim of each of the pieces. The soft ivory glaze is complemented by a hand painted burgundy detailing, lending vibrant color and whimsical detail to the design. Stamped "Sarreguemines" with the U & C intertwined monogram on the reverse, a hallmark of the partnership between Utzschneider & Cie, the pieces also bear impressed mold numbers. These markings date the set to the late 19th century, during the golden age of French majolica production when Sarreguemines rivaled its peers in artistry and technical innovation. Founded in 1790 in the Lorraine region of eastern France, the Sarreguemines factory became renowned for its richly glazed faïence and majolica wares, winning acclaim across Europe. By the late 1800s, it had become one of the most celebrated French ceramics manufacturers, known especially for its figural and naturalistic tableware. Asparagus plates, in particular, were coveted for their beauty and practicality in serving the prized spring vegetable. Whether displayed on a wall or used for service, this complete asparagus set is a rare and collectible treasure for the faïence connoisseur and a fabulous addition to any French country kitchen. This set does show signs of wear but only due to age. The hand painting shows very little wear. This set has been well cared for. There is a very small chip on the dish as you will see in the photo but it is not that noticable. This is a very rare piece and a nice addition to any collection. Hand wash only due to age. less
