A striking mid-century modern studio pottery bowl featuring a wide, shallow form elevated on a cylindrical foot. The interior is finished in a smooth, high-gloss reddish-brown glaze that transitions into darker tones at the center. The exterior showcases a dramatic textured "lava" glaze in a rich mix of black, brown, and blue tones, punctuated by raised vertical ridges that add sculptural interest and depth. The reactive glaze creates a highly tactile, almost volcanic surface effect, contrasting beautifully with the refined interior.
This hand-thrown vessel embodies the organic modernist aesthetic popular in 1960s and 70s studio ceramics, with a form and finish reminiscent of Scandinavian and Californian pottery from the same period. Unsigned. In excellent vintage condition with no chips or cracks.
Ideal as a centerpiece, decorative bowl, or collector's display item.
