We think, it was utilized as a cigarette holder of sorts, much like Mad Men Era decorative accents within a Den, office, or library or within any living space, that was part any social gathering with inclinations and smoking as a popular daily vise, especially when entertaining at home was made was at it's height. Patina to brass, but can e polished, and surface wear to underside, which denote marble, when not protected with felt padding, but the sticker, ALSO worn away initially had Made in Italy, was purchased while on Vacation in Italy, as per Estate Handlers relayed that bit of information. No chips, nor cracks to the Marble, only the base bottom is reflective of use within the marble, The gilded Lion crest handles with rings have patina and wear, normal and conducive to sue, given the era.
