A striking Minton majolica dish from England, modeled as a resting fish atop a vibrant shell-form tray. The piece showcases the rich, translucent glazes and whimsical, nature-inspired modeling that made Minton the premier name in Victorian ceramic innovation.
Circa 1870, this original period piece was crafted during the height of the majolica craze when Minton’s artistry defined the sophisticated Victorian table.
Earthenware finished with vibrant lead glazes in shades of grey, turquoise, and ochre, featuring a molded relief design of remarkable detail. Rooted in the Victorian Majolica tradition, this tray reflects the era’s fascination with the natural world and the celebrated "rustic ware" style popularized by Minton’s art director, Leon Arnoux.
