An extraordinary pair of “Triennial” armchairs by Gio Ponti, designed and crafted in Italy during the early 1950s. These rare chairs exemplify Ponti’s ability to merge architectural rigor with sculptural elegance. The dark-stained wood frames feature his signature openwork backs with fluid, tapered lines and gently flared arms, offering a dynamic yet refined silhouette.
The suspended, shield-shaped backrests—upholstered in a neutral fabric—appear to float between brass supports, lending a sense of lightness and innovation. Finished with deep, curved seats for comfort and understated nailhead detailing on the reverse, these chairs are a masterclass in form, proportion, and Italian mid-century craftsmanship.
A true collector’s piece from one of Italy’s most influential designers.
