Vintage Italian table lamps, a pair.
Depicting collumns of faux Lapis Lazuli with gold brass

Lapis lazuli was introduced to Mesopotamia approximately in the late Ubaid period, c. 4900–4000 BCE
The main component of lapis lazuli is lazurite
a feldspar substitute. Other important components are: calcite (white), sodalite (blue) and pyrite (yellow - metallic luster). In Ancient Egypt the special dark-blue colour symbolized the night sky and the starry heavens. The lapis lazuli was the most precious gemstone as it was considered a sacred stone connected to the gods. In ancient Egypt, lapis lazuli was a favorite stone for amulets and ornaments such as scarabs.
