A European Art Nouveau oval shaped bowl in silvery and reflective polished pewter with a Jugendstil flower and whiplash design from Orivit AG of Germany, dating circa 1900-1910. Jugendstil was the name of the Continental iteration of the Art Nouveau movement. The antique bowl is in very good condition with some typical oxidation spots, measuring 10.75 in. L x 6.25 in. W x 1.88 in. H., the perfect size for a bread basket or fruit bowl. Stamped ORIVIT on the base over an indistinguishable model number.
Wilhelm Ferdinand Hubert Schmitz founded Orivit-Metallwarenfabrik near Cologne, Germany in 1894 and the firm quickly gained attention for their artistic metalware designs. Orivit won a Gold Medal at the Paris Exposition Universelle in 1900 followed by two Grand Prix awards and a Gold Medal at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair. The company was acquired by WMF (Wurttembergische Metalwaren Fabrik) in 1905 and remained in business until 1914.
