It is artistically hand painted in … Read more This is a large 15-inch diameter Chinese underglaze blue bowl of the Qing Dynasty. It is artistically hand painted in shades of blue that depict birds, butterflies, and peonies predominately, positive symbols that represent, summer, freedom, prosperity, and new beginnings, etc. The well contains a baby bird in a nest and the interior band reflects the flowers and leave of summer.

It has no mark, which is not unusual for 19th Century porcelains and may indicate that it was intended for export. The estimated age is based upon an old instant polaroid photograph from the dealer, who wrote on it a date of 1820. There is currently (4-25) on eBay a blue and white bowl with a very similar interior band that is also dated to the Tao Kuang Period. It may be on the cusp of the Chia-ch’ing and Tao-Kuang Periods, both of which made much underglaze blue porcelain. Several pictures of the footrim are included, as that is considered to be important for authenticity. Please review carefully as no guarantee can be made.

This bowl is very special – mainly because of its large size. There are not many for sale that are as wonderfully sized for a centerpiece or actual punch bowl. See less
