It was made by Wilcox Silver Plate … Read more An antique Victorian and Civil War-era silver-plated toothpick holder shaped like a porcupine. It was made by Wilcox Silver Plate Co. in the 1860s and stamped with the item number 1900. The toothpicks will form the quills of the porcupine. It holds approximately 50 toothpicks. Perfect for charcuterie, olives, fruit plates, and other hors d'oeuvres. In excellent condition, with a dark antique patina and moderate wear to the silver plating.

On June 11, 2014, a Paul Lobel-design tea set for Wilcox Silver Plate Co. (C. 1928) sold for US $377,000 at auction at Sotheby's in New York.

Florence Babbitt (born 1847) was an antique collector and well-known dealer of antiques in the state of Michigan. She helped Henry Ford with his museum during her day, and also bequeathed a Wilcox Silver Plate Co. porcupine toothpick holder to the Grand Rapids Public Museum as part of her estate.
