moreMilton Glaser's seminal 1966 Bob Dylan poster for CBS Records is about the most important Postmodern poster design you can find. Inspired by Marcel Duchamp's 1957 self portrait, Glaser hid the word "Elvis" in Dylan's kaleidoscope hair ... a cheeky joke like those so commonly used by Glaser's Postmodern associates as well as Duchamp's surrealists. This is an early printing from the original vintage edition, and NOT one of the "authorized reproductions" that are more commonly seen. A similar example was acquired by The Museum of Modern Art in 1983 from Glaser himself, and other examples are included in most prominent museum's design collections. In fact, Gail Davidson, head of the department of drawings, prints and graphic design at the Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum in New York City, called this image "a key item in any poster collection."
This example is in excellent unmounted and unlined condition, with sharp creases as issued. Minor soiling to the reverse, which does not affect the image. This poster will be shipped folded and flat. Measures 21.5 x 32.75". Frame not included.
About Milton Glaser: Milton Glaser (1929- ) co-founded the seminal postmodern design shop Push Pin Studios in 1954 alongside Seymor Chwast, Edward Sorel, and Reynold Ruffins. Many people consider Glaser the cornerstone of American graphic design during the latter half of the twentieth century. A prolific designer, Glaser's work has been exhibited all over the globe and is represented in the design collections of many of major museums. less
