A Massive 31” Antique Industrial Wall Clock With Fusée Movement From the Estate of Paul Harvey
The massive clock case—which is nearly three feet in diameter—has a deeply carved and beautifully-aged mahogany frame surrounding a large-faced porcelain dial. The white-painted dial is offset with minute, quarter-hour and hour markers in an eye-catching, hefty black font and substantial steel spade hands.
This clock style is a precursor to the large industrial wall clocks, made or steel or Bakelite, commonly found in commercial spaces in the early- to mid-20th century.
The clock has a fusée regulator. Fusée movements, shown in sketches by Leonardo da Vinci, have been used to improve timekeeping since the 15th century. Early fusée clocks are highly desirable and collectable.
Provenance: This clock is from the estate of artist Paul Harvey, who was a prolific and award-winning illustrator of children’s books.
