The pedestal plate bears the Victorian importer`s impressed back-stamp, W&R and L, for Wittman & Roth London, importers of Continental porcelain and glass.
• Heavy molded relief with no noted damage
• Basketweave pattern center
• Border with decorative reticulated/pierced edging

A very interesting unique piece, in beautiful antique condition.
• Piece can be dated by maker marks and historical info (below); 125-150 years old.
• Approximate dimensions: 9.5" across x 2" tall.

Wittman & Roth London was in business from 1852-1895.
• Wittmann & Roth of London were importers of Continental porcelain and glass ware.
• 1852 – Phillip Adolphus Wittmann established a wholesale and retail company based at 42 Great Marlborough Street in London.
• Wittmann was later joined by Augustus Daniel Roth and the name of the company was changed to Wittmann & Roth. Others joining W&R were Sidney Adolphus Wittmann, Herbert Frederick Wittmann and Richard Charles Wittmann.
• 1879 – Daniel Roth left the partnership, and the name, Wittmann & Roth, was retained.
• At sometime Herbert F Wittmann left the business.
• 1895 – Wittmann & Roth was dissolved, with Richard Charles Wittmann continued in the trade as Wittmann & Co. See less
