The simple and straightforward design aesthetic reflects the Rustic European sensibilities so familiar to the European immigrants working in the Eastern Midwest region where these were produced. Somewhat overshadowed by its larger competitors in the Ohio pottery manufacturing community (Roseville, McCoy, & Rookwood), Watt pottery was founded in 1922 in Crooksville OH and was a favorite due to its ability to go straight from the refrigerator (or "icebox") to the oven. These examples would have been used for individual puddings, cobblers, and other baked fare. The mark used on these pieces was first included in the early 1940s and, as the company moved toward hand-painted designs in the later days of that decade, we believe them to be early 1940s vintage.

Very good vintage condition, especially considering their somewhat utilitarian beginnings. A few small glaze chips and one clay chip on the rims give testament to their almost 85+ year history.
