From Gien, a straw pattern cheese service, a server and eight plates, France, circa 1950s.
The Trompe l’oeil pattern has a texture suggesting woven straw, a traditional motif for the cheese course in French dining.
Glazed in a rich, deep yellow ochre, this service has the larger platter for presenting a variety of cheeses, and eight personal plates.
Platter: 10 inches in diameter x .50 inches high.
Plates: 7.25 inches in diameter x .50 inches high.
Marked: The Faiencerie Gien ‘FG’ mark used in the 1950s, Creation Val-d’Or, Made in France.
All pieces are in Excellent condition – just a beautiful set.
