Flowers always have an appeal, especially finely painted flowers that are almost life-like on Qing Porcelains. These are two lozenge shaped bowls that belonged to a set fitted onto a wooded tray or box. They were used to hold all kinds of sweetmeats, melon seeds or nuts. One bowl is painted with bunches of red begonias and the other has multi color chrysanthemums. The other bowls would invariably have floral themes too. The flowers are expertly painted, especially the begonias . The bowl rims, outlined in now faded gold glaze, have interesting undulating round and barbed edges, also repeated in the foot rims. Each bowl has a shop mark in the form of lingzhi fungus and painted in red.
The dating of these bowls would be Daoguang Period CE 1820 - 50.of the Qing Dynasty. The porcelain surfaces on the exterior are smooth but the interior has an "orange peel" surface. Lacking knowledge to explain how except to say that is a sign of age as are the gritty feel on spots of fine sand on the foot rims. These are the items to tick as evidence of a mid 19th century porcelains from Qingdezhen in the Qing Dynasty.
Please note I am selling the 2 pieces as a set.
