Originating from early to mid 19th century Iran, this polychrome-painted pottery piece is crafted from stonepaste, featuring a distinctive ovoid shape rising from a concave base. Adorned with intricate floral patterns and calligraphy under a clear glaze, it measures approximately 8" x 4" x 4". Designed with small openings on both ends for suspension via attached metal chains, it served as a container for collecting alms and other goods during street sessions of poetry recitation and religious activities. Despite showing normal signs of age and use, it remains in excellent condition, offering a glimpse into the cultural and artistic heritage of the Qajar period. This particular Kashkul represents an exceptionally rare find outside of museum collections, as they are predominantly held within private collections due to their historical significance and artistic value. Its scarcity adds to its allure, making it a prized possession for collectors and enthusiasts alike. See less
