Beautiful Chinese Octagonal Ceramic Bowl With Dragon And Phoenix Design. Fabulous cool blue and turquoise tones. Octagonal form painted with mythical beasts amongst clouds on a blue ground, six character reign mark in red. Some wear to enamel.
This bowl carries the reign mark of the Emperor Tongzhi who ruled China from 1862 until 1874. Before the middle part of the 19th century reign marks placed on pieces that were of the period referred to in the mark were of the very finest quality produced in the Imperial kilns.
