A Hongxian (1915-1916) four-character marked bronze bowl, with etched design that includes a poem, water dragon, children at play water life and phoenix birds. All auspicious motifs.
The Empire of China was a short-lived attempt by Chinese president Yuan Shikai from late 1915 to early 1916 to reinstate the monarchy in China, with himself as emperor.
The dragon was the symbol of the Chinese emperor for many dynasties. During the Qing dynasty, the Azure Dragon was featured on the first Chinese national flag. It was featured again on the Twelve Symbols national emblem, which was used during the Republic of China, from 1913 to 1928.

In the culture of China, the Phoenix is the king of all birds, and is the symbol of high virtue and grace. Traditionally, the males were called Feng and the females Huang, but during the Yuan Dynasty (1271–1368 AD), the Phoenix has become the symbol of femininity.

Measurements: 14.5 inches diameter, 4.5 inches high.
