The birds are exquisitely sculpted and painted in … Read more Very rare Franz Bergman bird bowl featuring a pair of lifelike cockatoos. The birds are exquisitely sculpted and painted in shades of gray, pink, and white. The detailed feathers and small feet add to their realism. Each bird perches on the edge of a gold-toned bronze bowl. The markings underneath the tail feathers reveal part of the "Bergman" signature, as well as a partial "Geschutzt" mark. This piece is simply stunning and charming.

Upon researching, we found numerous bird-themed items, but those on bowls are particularly rare. This is an excellent example of Bergman's work.

Franz Bergman was an Austrian entrepreneur renowned for his Viennese foundry, which produced numerous cold-painted bronze sculptures, including erotic figures, animals, Orientalist scenes, and mythological creatures. Although he is often misidentified as a sculptor, Bergman did not create the works himself; instead, he employed various anonymous sculptors to bring his ideas to life. He signed many erotic pieces with the pseudonym Nam Greb to conceal his identity and avoid penalties for immorality. Born in 1861 in Vienna, Austria, Bergman inherited a bronze factory from his father and later established his own foundry. He passed away in 1936 in Vienna.

Please refer to our photos for additional details; we have provided close-up views. There is a small indentation on the lip of the bowl, but this does not detract from the item. The condition is good, with age-appropriate wear.
