The lower half of the basin is ribbed with scolloped fluting, and above is a flat corseted reserve resolving in a flared rim. The interior of the bowl and rim are decorated with hand stamped circular punch work stringing. The form is that of a classical Greek inspired Phiale ritual libation bowl. This type of ceremonial basin was made and used across the Eastern Mediterranean and as far east as Tibet. See less
