If you’ve been backlogging the task of finding the perfect desk, the time is right to make it a priority! With more and more would be nine-to-fivers clocking out of offices permanently, desks — a one-time furniture after-thought — are becoming an at-home must-have. Choosing a style that complements not just your home’s style, but your work style is no easy feat, however. With so many styles to choose from — Mid-Century Modern desks, antique secretary desks, rolltop desks, to name just a few — it can be daunting to pin down the right style. To help, we’ve collected some of our favorite desk types that are compatible with a variety of interior styles. Keep reading to learn more!

Executive Desk

The commanding executive desk is first. Often associated with positions of power, the executive desk is wide and deep, typically with a double pedestal design and drawers. This sizable desk is great for Mid-Century Modern desk enthusiasts looking for something more eclectic and anyone looking to make their desk the focal point of a room.

Secretary Desk

In contrast to the striking size of executive desks, secretary desks are often small, practical, and charming. In simple terms, a secretary desk is a cabinet with a hinged writing surface that either folds open or drops down to reveal a writing surface, similar to how roll top desks function. Often, these desks have plenty of drawers both below the desk and behind it, making it a great space-saving option for anyone looking to design small spaces with a touch of vintage glamor!

Table Desk

Perhaps one of the more straightforward styles, a simple table desk is great for minimalists who want a large amount of work space. Sturdy, simple, and available in a wide variety of styles and colors, a handsome table desk lacks any additional storage space and takes up less floor space compared to other desk types. If you already have storage covered with bookshelves, then this is a great option to add to a contemporary and sophisticated space!

Small Ledge Desk

Another great small desk option is a ledge desk! This straightforward work desk is a great addition to any room where you don’t intend for your desk to be the star. In the long run, ledge desks are perfect for sneaking into a living or bedroom as additional workspace. For an even more minimalist aesthetic, look to wall-mounted ledge desks to achieve a chic “floating” look!

Hutch Desk

A hutch desk, also known as a desk with open storage installed overhead, is perfect for informal workspaces like kids’ rooms and dedicated offices. The oversized nature of these desks makes them excellent for spreading out with books, drawing tools, or other instruments. Likewise, their upper storage can be used to stow work tools, art (collected, or your own!), and other playful decor pieces that gives your workspace a more informal feel.

Built-In Desk

Wrapping up our list is the built-in or hidden desk! These types of concealed or modular can be as customizable as you desire. Add these to your kitchen for additional work and counter space or sneak these into a living room shelving unit for a sophisticated and modern feel. These desks might be hidden in plain sight, but they’re invaluable, multifunctional additions to any room!
