Ruth Steinberg is based in New York City and has been making art since her youth. In 1972, Ruth graduated from Barnard College and then studied medicine. She has worked as an enamelist for the last 15 years, exploring the unexpected, serendipitous nature of liquified, powdered glass as it first melts and then crystallizes into deeply expressive representations over copper. Ruth is passionate about gardening, classical music and opera. She is inspired by the brilliant colors and harmonies in those art forms and works to capture that vibrance and magic in her enamels.
In April 2025, Ruth Steinberg’s composition titled "Norwegian Woods" was curated by The Enamel Guild Northeast into the online group exhibition titled "Under Fire 5" and sold later that month. Steinberg presented her enamel paintings at the 2025 Superfine Art Fair in New York and sold 8 pieces titled "California Burning," "Cosmic Explosion," "Sea Jewels," "Sunset by the Lake," "Lava Night," "Beach Sun," "Japanese Garden" and "Tree of Gold".
Two of Ruth Steinberg’s enamel paintings titled "Meteor Shower," (page 47) and "Moon Over Madison Beach," (page 53) are featured in "The Art of Fine Enameling, 2nd Edition" (2019) by Karen L. Cohen.
