Lee Ten Hoeve is an artist and art educator influenced by the intersection of art and design, particularly the world of fashion.
Lee studied Fashion Design and Illustration at the Fashion Institute of Technology which led her to a career as a designer at Ralph Lauren. She later studied Fine Art at Fordham University graduating with a double degree in Art Education and Fine Art. Currently, Lee spends her days educating young artists and making her own art.
Lee has created commissioned pieces for private clients, participated in art fairs, and group and solos show. Her work has been published in fashion magazines and in print materials for advertisements.
Lee uses a mostly multi-media approach including everything from traditional watercolor and acrylic paint, to helium balloon transfers and fabric scraps. Whether painting or collaging, layering is a continuous thread in her work.
The woman as subject of Art is hardly a modern concept, but the woman as a subject of respect and power instead of a place to land our gaze, is.
The idea that we all present ourselves to the world with changing faces fascinates Lee. Her work is driven by the belief that we only temporarily embrace any one perspective. The only certainty is things will shift; creating a beautiful blur that is our true self… a dizzying but beautiful truth. In her work, Lee strives to capture the shifts, the alternating moments that are the foundation of all that we are.
