Our company was founded in 1998 by Maxine Snider, who built a fascinating collection of modern pieces imbued with artisanal details that nod to the Shakers, the French modernists, and the great Scandinavian designers. Maxine’s furniture collections reflect her diverse studio practice and elegant design evolution. In 2019, Snider sold the company to Bridgette Buckley and transitioned into a mentor role.

In 2023, in honor of our 25th anniversary and the next generation of craftsmanship, Maxine Snider Inc. was renamed HONNING to commemorate our augmented role as a steward of multiple collections. We will proudly continue to manufacture the designs of Maxine Snider as well as those exclusively for HONNING by Bridgette Buckley, whose work expresses an organic sensibility and a Scandinavian influence.

The name HONNING means “honey” in Danish (and is pronounced similarly), and is inspired by the industriousness and mystique of the honeybee. An homage to how bees conduct the hive–where all parts work toward a greater whole to create exquisite products–HONNING designs meticulously crafted pieces that endure beyond our lifetime.
