This really is a Great Looking Authentic Antique American Primitive Stoneware Spirits Jug. Circa Late 19th Century. It is Not marked as Such but it is Rendered in The 1 Gallon Size. It is Embossed - Signed by the Well Documented Maker OTTMAN BROTHERS COMPANY in FORT EDWARDS NEW YORK. The front has Well Executed Hand Decorated Cobalt Blue Decoration that is Done in the "Script" Style - Reads J.H.Connors 119 Haverhill St. Boston. ( Massachusetts ) - This Being the Name of the Store - Merchant that it Came From. Back in the day these type of jugs were on loan to customers from Retail Merchants such as Liquor Stores, Dry Goods & Grocery Stores, Etc. They could used and refilled with a variety liquids such as Ciders - Vinegar - Liquors - Spirits Etc. It is in Very Nice All Original Condition and it Displays Beautifully. Imperfection Noted - It Has a Chip at the Base Perimeter that can Best be Seen in the Last Photograph in my Listing. No Other Issues - No Cracks - No Repairs. It has Some Minor Surface Glaze Kiln imperfections ( Rust Color Spots ) Around the Base Perimeter. These were Quite Common with Early Stoneware Pieces and Would have Occurred When it was Made During the Kiln Firing Process. Stoneware Pieces Like This were Fired in Very Large Kilns with Many Other Pieces at the Same Time.
It Measures Overall Approx. 11 3/4 Tall x 8 Inches Long - Wide.
