A signed, numbered, and framed block print by artist Margery Niblock titled 'The Checker Game' depicts two boys sitting on a stoop playing checkers. I love the rough texture typical of block printing portrayed in the tall grasses behind them. #35/50.
The artwork is framed in its original taupe mat and a thin wooden frame painted black with gold pinstripes. The seal of the paper backing was opened to replace the glass but has been taped back in place to retain the stamp on the back, which authenticates that the work was framed at 'The Art Lovers' at 2418 Broadway and 89th St in New York, NY.
Margery Niblock is a 20th-century American artist and book illustrator from New York who has practiced printmaking since 1958. Her work exists in collections within the US and abroad, with a notable appearance in the 1972 UNICEF Engagement Calendar for her woodcut titled 'Fantasy'.
