I found this in a antique shop in a small town on the Pearl River Delta near Guangzhou (Canton.) The Chinese Literati have great love for natural objects and this piece of tree root sculpture would be treated just like a scholar rock, to be admired on the scholar's table.

To enhance the looks, small pieces of wood were added on, so as to enable the sculpture to stand properly. It can be used as a sculpture by itself, or as a background to an ikebana display. See less
