I come across countless Chinese wood carvings in this theme, but I rarely come across occidental wood carving. This magnificent horizontal piece of wood carving, executed by hand, was said to have been exhibited at one of the World's Fairs that took place in major US and European cities at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th Century,.

Whether it has its origin in Europe or US, it is a fine specimen of making this wood panel a work of art. The piece has an Art Noveau feeling with its expression of beautiful flowers and plants. The design layout is in three sections. On the left is a wood trellis with large blooming morning glory flowers growing on a trellis. In the middle is a composition of holly leaves and berries. Grapevines wrapping around the wood trellis is on the right, with tiny sprays of grapes. The carving is deep, and has a three dimensional appearance which made the flowers really popped.

On a mantle or hang on a wall, this floral wood panel does make a statement.
