Andy Warhol ( 1928 - 1987 ) is one of the singularly most well known Contemporary artists of all time. His imagery is recognized worldwide. His infamous life, artworks, and creative endeavors are like no other artist. He is credited as the very first artist to use common everyday objects and view them in a completely different way while paying homage to their role in our society. Glorifying the common as the beautiful. His technique utilizing a silkscreen method combined with hand finishing in a signature palette of vibrant color hues make the work stand on its own and loved by millions.
In 1963 Warhol established a studio in an abandoned fire station on east 87th street, it was there he began work on one of his earliest subjects, a full length portrait of Elvis Presley. many of Warhol's most famous paintings take images of celebrities from popular media as their source. The image of Elvis is based on a publicity still for the 1960 film Flaming Star.
Warhol's repetition of identical images allude to the pervasiveness of consumer culture, suggesting individual film frames and cinematic motion, while the work's color palette evokes Hollywood's silver screen. Elvis dressed as a cowboy, with gun drawn reveals him as an actor rather than as a musician. paralleled are the stories and personas of two of Elvis Presley ( The King of Rock and Roll ) and Andy Warhol ( The Pope of Pop Art ) two of the most significant Pop culture icons of The 20th Century.
