Champleve is an old technique of enamel decoration of metal objects. In this instance, the artisan incised designs on the background of an object . Enamel is applied and fired in the depressed areas. It differs from cloisonne where fired enamel colors coat the entire surface. The form of this vase is a take off from Chinese ritual bronzes. It is not quite right because it is a Japanese rendition, but nicely done with dragon heads on the "ear" handles A mark "Made in Japan: is incised into the bottom, giving it a date of 1920's and 1930's.
The dimensions are 6 inches in diameter and 10 inches high.
The condition is good with slight wear on objects of this age.
