Beautiful porcelain plate with imari decoration from the 19th century. On this plate, the background is white with floral and vegetal decoration in red and blue with some green and grey added.
Imari porcelain is actually a production site of Japanese porcelain on the island of Kyushu, in the province of Hizen. One of the different styles of Imari porcelain found there is the Kirande style, also called "golden brocade". It can be recognized by the use of three specific colors (cobalt blue, saffron red and white) but also by a particular iconographic register (numerous floral motifs, animal and mineral elements). Japan having been a closed country for three centuries, between the 17th and 19th centuries, and its imari porcelain being very popular, China has taken over the imari motifs for European customers.
