Genuinely rare, 17thC Venetian (or facon de Venise) glass salver or tazza. Maker not known. An example of this form can be found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Very finely handcrafted of free blown clear glass, the platter attached to a corseted pedestal that features a wrap of glass in the narrow waist. A trailing of turquoise colored glass is applied in a chain pattern to the serving piece, and the entire (underside) surface finished with an extensive, detailed and highly ornate diamond point, scratch engraved pattern of flora and fauna. A magnificent survivor.
Measures approximately 10"x 3.25". Has manufacturing/production flaws, such as the tilt seen in the photographs. No chips or cracks, has heavy, age-appropriate foot wear. Unmarked, undated.
