Diminutive in size, beautifully designed French Provincial, Louis XV-style, three drawer commode with its convex, or bombe shape. A perfect complement in a smaller space such as a narrow entryway or guest bedroom or ideal for someone who may have recently downsized to a smaller home or is about to. The original concept of a French commode was that of a cabinet or chest of drawers. Introduced into the country in the early 18th century, they were great in terms of beauty and function. Low in stature standing on short feet or cabriole legs, they have flat backs and were meant to stand against a wall. This cutie was crafted by Brandt Furniture sometime in the early 1970s as part of the Barony collection, which was their rendition of French Provincial style. Crafted from solid hardwood which we believe to be cherry wood in a warm fruitwood stain finish. Solid wood drawer casings; English dovetail joinery; wooden drawer rails glide effortlessly. In terms of design features, you’ll find dainty cabriole legs with whorl feet on the front, bracket legs on the back. Intricate floral and foliate brass hardware; scalloped top and skirt with recessed carved panels insets finish the look. It measures 20¼” x 26¼” x 13” H/W/D; drawer 20” x 8¾” x 2½” W/D/H apiece; weight 28lbs. In excellent condition. Age-appropriate wear bumps and bruises of life (see photos 7, 8 & 10); mostly indiscernible and in no way affect its beauty or utility. Makers label on the inside of drawer one and collection name and style # on the bottom of the third drawer.
