Large screen … Read more The extra large stand was once made to hold a screen made of figured marble or a painting. Large screen such as this one was primarily used as decoration, or a divider of a room. It was part of a furniture exhibition that took place in Chicago in the 1990's. The entire exhibition was once a part of the huge inventory that was stored in government warehouses in Beijing. The items were collected during the Cultural Revolution. They were seized or donated out of fear of owning antiques. The organizers of the exhibit were able to obtain this group of furniture from the large inventory in Beijing. Whether the stand came with the screen is uncertain. This is what remains, and waiting to be re-use again. The cost of making something similar today will be expensive indeed.

The stand is made of elm which is a soft hardwood. It is very sturday and can hold a heavy screen. See less
