Designed by Hjördis Oldfors for Upsala Ekeby, this decorative bowl is a fabulous example of mid-century modern Swedish pottery. Display the pottery bowl on a coffee table or entry hall console table.
What makes this Oldfors pottery piece extra special is the letter relief in the bowl's center (HUAN). I could find no reference for the meaning of this marking -- perhaps the piece was a custom order. Regardless, the vintage bowl would make an intriguing addition to any modern Scandinavian pottery collection as well as a beautiful home decor accent.

Hjördis Oldfors (1920–2014) designed many classics for the Swedish Upsala-Ekeby company in the 1950s. One of the most well-known series is Granit (Granite) from 1959. It consists of four earthenware bowls and vases. They have geometric forms, gray glaze, and white net relief. The items are deep stamped on the lower side with UE, model number, and Hjördis’s mark (”Hj” in a circle). The series was manufactured until 1962.
The vintage pottery bowl is in good condition showing wear consistent with its age and use.
