Created in China during the Qing Dynasty in the 19th century, this elm wood armchair features a slightly out-scrolling stick back, adorned with two delicate hand-carved floral motifs interrupting the mid section. Connected to two arms of similar style, the back rests on a rectangular wooden seat showcasing typical knots and imperfections. Raised on four straight slightly splaying legs, the chair is adorned with a hand-carved apron in the front presenting scrolling foliage flanking a cross-hatched motif topped with a radiating rays, the sides and back being simply scalloped. The legs are strengthened with plain side stretchers or varying heights, giving additional visual interest to the ensemble.
