The very-much used pail with some serious patina is marked "H W Haydens Patent Dec 6, 1851 Manufactured by the Waterbury Brass Co.". (I think it is Dec 16 as it is more clear in others I have seen.)

The handle and hook are original - used to carry water, heat water over a fire?

It does hold water, but would be a great hanging planter, fireplace kindling storage, decorative object, with pinecones, rustic flower vase . . .

Measures 11" in diameter on top, 8" diameter on the bottom, 6.25" tall and 14.5" tall with handle & hook extended. See less
