Vintage pressed glass basket bowl with a textured hobnail and tiger stripe pattern in clear glass with an opalescent twisted handle. Half of the scalloped rim is also made with opalescent glass. When light hits the handle just right, you can see subtle hues of apricot orange, sky blue, and pale yellow reflected from it. Imprinted on the bottom is ‘Pat. March 18, 1902.’ Made by Jefferson Glass Co. sometime in the early 20th century.
The Jefferson Glass Company was founded in 1900 in Steubenville, Ohio and operated there until 1908, specializing in the making of opalescent glass. In 1908, the company moved to a new location in West Virginia and sold many of its Steubenville opalescent glass molds to the Northwood Glass Company. The factory closed in 1933.
