This is a Great Looking - Unusual Antique American Primitive Stoneware 2 Gallon Storage Jug. Circa Late 19th Century. It has Beautiful Cobalt Blue Hand Decorated Features and it is Embossed with a Number 2 - Denoting its 2 Gallon Liquid Storage Capacity. These types of Jugs were typically used to Store and Preserve Liquids such as Cider - Hard Ciders - Spirits - Liquors - Spring Water, Etc. Note that It Comes with its Very Old - Most Likely Original Hand Carved Wood Plug - Stopper. It has no maker marks. It is most likely from the New England Region. It is in Excellent Condition with No Damage - No Repairs - Displays Beautifully. It does have a 2 Surface - Kiln Glaze Imperfections - Spots ate the Base - Perimeter but these are normal and would have occurred in the making - firing process.Stoneware Piece Such as These were Fired in Very Large Kilns with Multiple Pieces at the Same Time and an Assortment of Surface Imperfections are Quite Common.
It Measures 12 3/4 inches Tall x 9 inches Wide - Long.
