The frame is made of solid walnut and is very likely American made. Best guess is this Fauteuil Chair dates from the early part of the 20th century (1900-1910) at the height of the Gilded Age revival when elite American society sought to emulate period furniture of the 17th century French Royal Court, and the "Louis XIV Style" of furnishing with its massive, ornate and often guilted pieces fit perfectly into how these newly wealthy and sophisticated Americans saw themselves and choose to decorate their lavish homes.

We've taken it down a notch here...
By completely stripping the chair down to its beautiful frame, keeping the original finish and cleaning it with a colored-wax polish to reveal the warm beautiful grain of the walnut wood. New springs have been tied and added to the seat frame then covered with muslin and cotton batting, and finally upholstered in this cheerful slightly seaside-vibe fabric with varying shades of blue, green, gray, yellow, and cream.
The Upholstery Fabric is made by KOVI Fabrics, Pattern No 4212, "Spring Rain", blue/green

It has a very tall back and wide seat, extremely roomy and perfect to get lost in with a book and cup of tea, or with another friend perhaps.
The chair is very well made, sturdy and heavy, extremely solid.
The upholstery is in excellent condition.
