Beautiful Hollywood Regency Modern gold Italian sculptural sheaf of wheat, ( Le Blé) coffee or side table. In the style of Baguès or Robert Goossens. This highly coveted occasional table was first made classic by Coco Chanel in her 31 Rue Cambon apartment in Paris. Similar pieces have also been created for Yves St. Laurent in the 1970s.

The gilt gold base features tall pieces of sculptural metal crafted to look like sheaves of wheat. The "spike" (or ear or head as they are called) on the top of each sheaf features beautifully crafted leaf-like pieces. The bunch is tied together in the center with gold metal fashioned into a trompe l'oeil knot. This drinks table is paired with a round clear glass top.

This piece is nearly identical to the one featured in Coco Chanel's Paris apartment. Similar pieces have also been created for Yves St. Laurent in the 1970s.

Gabrielle Chanel was a woman of many passions and just as many good-luck charms. The designer was particularly fond of sheaves of wheat—not only because they’re a universal symbol of prosperity, but because they also symbolize harvest time, which coincided with her birth date, August 19. In France, wheat is a symbol of prosperity and wealth. And therefore would be a wonderful piece to add glamour (and luck!) to any room. As a coffee table, side table, or even a night table. This classic piece could go anywhere and light up a room.
