A pair of noble, rearing equine bookends fashioned in solid glass. Made in the Art Deco style in the 1940s-1950s by The Fostoria Glass Company. The Fostoria Glass Company was a manufacturer of pressed, blown and hand-molded glassware and tableware. It began operations in Fostoria, Ohio, in 1887. Fuel shortages caused the company to move to Moundsville, West Virginia in 1891. Considered one of the top producers of elegant glass, the company gained a national reputation and even made items for several U.S. presidents. The company employed 1,000 people at its 1950 peak and permanently closed in 1986. These vintage bookends would make a memorable gift or accessory in an office/home office/library.
