Excellent Pre-Owned Condition.
Enchanting hand painted Gay Fad Studios satin glass juice beverage set by Bartlett Collins, circa 1960. Gay Fad Studios opened in Lancaster, Ohio in 1945. Gay Fad's founder was Fran Taylor, who worked at home for seven years hand decorating home goods and glassware items before opening the studio. Taylor and her staff designed a variety of patterns onto "blank" glassware purchased from Hazel Atlas, Bartlett Collins, Anchor Hocking and Federal Glass, among others. While quite prolific during the mid-century, sadly, Gay Fad Studios closed in 1962. This eye-catching petite set will add whimsy and charm to any brunch or lunch tablescape. The set includes seven circular flat bottom tumblers, along with a circular pitcher with thick ribbed handle and an ice lip spout. The petite pitcher measures 7½” x 5½” x 3” H/W/D; capacity 40 oz.; weight 1 lb. 8 oz. Each tumbler measures 3” x 2¼” x 2” H/W/D; capacity 6 oz. apiece; collectively the tumblers weigh 1 lb. 5 oz. Crafted from pressed glass with a satin exterior finish; hand painted and fired on colorful primary color fruit medley motif (peaches, plums, cherry, apples, pears, oranges) with Kelly green leaves and brown stems. There is no makers mark. In overall excellent condition; colors are vibrant without wear. There is a one small spot on the pitcher’s apple that is a little different in color from the rest of the apple that under the fired on finish, which is a result of the manufacturing process. There are also a few irregular spots within the satin finish that is not unusual in satin glass, original to the manufacturer as well, which does not detract from the beauty and utility of the set. I have attempted to capture these spots in the photos. For a Gay Fad aficionado this gorgeous set should be a must have or the perfect gift for someone who is!
