moreThis beautiful and mysterious stone snuff bottle may not be a black sea sediment jasper or is it a snowflake obsidian? My stone identifier keeps giving me different identifications. Nevertheless, it is a bottle of significant size and appearance. The flattened rectangular body that slightly tapers to a raised oval foot has the most intriguing purple streaks that are fused to the black stone. The sloping rounded shoulders extends upwards towards a straight round neck with a flat top and a small opening for the spoon. The snuff bottle cap is a grey/green agate with a cork stopper.
Dating: post 1970
Dimensions: 2.25 inches wide x 1 inch deep x 3.5 inches high
This bottle among others was collected by an Englishman who in the 1970's served in Her Majesty's Royal Navy in the Far East. While on leave he would visit all the antique markets in the Asia hunting for unusual stones and other snuff bottles. his bottle in particular has not appear less
